Boris Johnson(the london mayor) swallows a fly!

In the interview with Virgin News reporter Tania Snuggs, Johnson turned a rather fetching shade of red as he struggled for air.

During the clip, the mayor at first seems to think his sudden spluttering was caused by hayfever, as he asked for recording to be halted while he composes himself.

'Excuse me. Cut that. I have a terrible cough.he wheezed.' Sorry, I think I have got hayfever or something. Terrible cough..'

Realisation soon dawned, however.

'Excuse me. I've swallowed something awful, I've swallowed a bug,' he laughed. 'I swallowed a gnat.'

Snuggs even asked around the studio to see if anyone had a 'Locket' which could help the stricken mayor as crew members joked about him being a 'flycatcher'.

But professional to the last the former Spectator editor regained his composure after swigging from a water bottle in time to urge the nation to 'get behind Team GB in Beijing'.

Johnson was taking part in the interview - due to be aired next week - to discuss the Olympics and to urge the nation to 'get behind Team GB' at Beijing.

Miss Snuggs, 31, said afterwards: 'It definitely takes the top spot in the weird things that have happened to me while interviewing.

'He was going red and tried to cover his face.

'He is such a good sport and very accommodating and did his best to battle through the interview. Everyone around him was in hysterics.

'Eventually one of his aides produced a bottle of water which he was very grateful for.
'He always gives very lively interviews but I certainly wasn't expecting this.

'It was just before lunchtime so perhaps he was a bit hungry.'
